"Big Brother is no longer just virtual in Second Life" – at least that was the reaction of a member to the changing politics of the popular gambling virtual world. Second Lifes new principle prohibits all residents on virtual gambling in "The World" to participate. In the amended Terms of Linden Lab says now: "It violates the statute, if the gambling on the servers of Linden Lab participates if: 1) (a) a random number generator is used to determine a winner, OR (b ) the outcome of real sports results depend AND (2) the profits in (a) Linden Dollars, OR b) any real monetary value or equivalent goods are paid. "
Second Life already has eight million members to win their virtual world in which there is real estate speculation, escort service, a virtual stock trading, and until recently also been offered gambling. For an important principle of Second Life is that "all residents for their activities and are responsible to the laws of their place of residence must hold." As American service providers in a regulated market-UIGEA decided to Linden Lab, developer of Second Life to " all games to prohibit what the criteria in accordance with our statutes. " Consequently, Poker, Blackjack, Pai Gow, Craps, Faro, Roulette, Pachinko, Slot Machines (one-armed bandit) and sports betting excluded.
However, this is not the first amendment regarding Internet gambling in the virtual world from Linden Lab. In April 2007, Second Life announced that all advertising for casinos or casino events would no longer be accepted.
The reactions were required to see and reflect the concerns of the members opposed:
"I do not like gambling, but everyone has the right to decide whether he wants his money away or not."
"Who knows what they choose next, now that gambling was banned."
Many suggested that the real side of the virtual world (the server) in another country will.
The motto of Second Life is "Your World. Your imagination. "Since July 25 there is at least the issue of gambling in this world no more.
